Friends of 17-year-old Fliez Kalwe, a school girl in Isoka district have been sharing her photos online, saying she has committed suicide.
Reasons were still unknown in the morning until police revealed that she took her life her away in front of her sister by taking tablests of a pesticide.
Muchinga Province Senior Assistant Commissioner Lucky Buumba has said the Grade 10 pupils was upset that her father allegedly stopped her from going with men on several occasions by never listened.
“On Sunday, March 6,2022, she was again seen with a man along the road about a few meters from his house which made him to confront them so that he gets hold of the boyfriend, they both ran away and went back home around 19:00 hrs,” she says in a statement.
“At that time, her father still advised her to stop being found around men. She got upset and went away not knowing that she went to buy a pesticide which she drunk in the presence of her young sister who later informed her parents,” Mrs Buumba added.
Fliez died today minutes after midnight at the hospital.
Reports of suicide in Zambia are on the rise with most cases involving youths.
Suicide mortality rate (per 100,000 population) in Zambia was reported at 7.3 % in 2019, according to the World Bank collection of development indicators, compiled from officially recognized sources.

Cases had significantly dropped at the end of the last decade with the highest recorded between 2010 and 2012.
