48 Houses Owners Plead Not Guilty

A LUSAKA couple has pleaded not guilty of concealing and being in possession of 51 houses valued at over K37.9 million.

Charles Mukomena Loyana, 51, a senior accountant at the Ministry of Finance and his wife, Susan Sinkala Loyana, 46, are charged with two counts of corrupt practices involving concealment and possession of properties suspected to be proceeds of crime.

In count one, it is alleged that Loyana and his wife of House Number 2728 off Shantumbu Road, Chalala, between January 1, 2012 and June 30, 2019 jointly and whilst acting together with others unknown, did conceal and possess 51 properties valued at K37,916,000.00, properties reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime.

In count two, the Loyanas between January 1, 2012 and June 30, 2019, jointly and whilst acting together with others unknown, did possess 51 properties which are located in Lusaka’s Chalala area.

The Loyanas appeared before Lusaka principal resident magistrate Nthandose Chabala who allocated the matter to magistrate Judith Chiyaika.

And when the accused persons, who represented by lawyer Willis Muhanga and Mutakela Lisimba, appeared before magistrate Chiyaika, they understood the charges they are facing and pleaded not guilty.

Magistrate Chiyaika set February 7, 2022 for commencement of trial. The accused are also expected to appear before court on January 19, 2022 for mention.
