57 Mps Declare Their Assets And Liabilities

Republican President Hakainde Hichilema has not yet declared his assets and liabilities to the office of the Chief Justice after his election as 7th Republican President.
According to article 263 of the amended Constitution, a person holding a public office shall and before assuming office or leaving office make a declaration of their assets and liabilities.
But a search conducted by Diamond TV at the registry before the acting chief justice Michael Musonda found that the President, Solicitor General Marshal Muchende, Local Government Minister Garry Nkombo, Home affairs minister Jack Mwiimbu among others have not declared their assets.
However, Vice President Mutale Nalumango, Speaker of the National Assembly Nelly Mutti, Justice Minister Mulambo Haimbe, Defence Minister Ambrose Lufuma, Lands minister Elijah Muchima among other ministers and members of parliament have declared their assets.
From the opposition PF Chawama Member of Parliament Tasila Lungu has declared her assets and Independent Nkana Member of Parliament Binwell Mpundu and Petauke Central Member of Parliament, Emmanuel Banda have also declared their assets.
Commenting on the development, Transparency International Zambia TIZ Executive Director, Maurice Nyambe has expressed concern that the President has not yet declared his assets and liabilities.
Mr. Nyambe says the declaration of assets by the President will show his commitment to fight corruption.
