FORMER President Edgar Lungu’s special assistant for press and public relations Amos Chanda, wife Mable and sister-in-law have pleaded not guilty of using insulting language and obstruction.

Chanda, Mable and Ruth Nakaundi appeared before Lusaka Chief resident magistrate Dominic Makalicha where they denied commiting the offences.

In count one, it is alleged that Chanda on October 27, 2021 used insulting language on Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) officers, Friday Tembo, the senior investigations officer, William Chilufya and Christopher Siwakwi in due execution of their duty to which he said: “Idiots” “You criminals” and other words to that effect, conduct likely to give provocation to the said officers so as to cause the said officers to break the peace and commit an offence.

Count two alleges that Mable and Ruth on the same day insulted female and male ACC officers that: ‘bafinyo’ ‘kuti namidosa amalepe’ ‘imwe bafikala Chikala chawiso’ bakolwe’ meaning ‘vag***’ ‘I can pull your la***’ ‘peni***” ‘monkeys’ and other insulting words.

The last count alleges that the three accused persons obstructed officers and delayed them from lawfully searching at Chanda’s house at number 67 Elm Road, Woodlands, Lusaka. After pleading not guilty to the charges, the matter is proceeding into trial as both the State and defence are ready.
