COMMUNICATIONS MINISTER TOURS WEATHER MONITORING SYSTEMS

Transport and Communications Minister Hon Mutotwe Kafwaya on Sunday toured the weather monitoring facilities in Lusaka to appreciate the massive investment done by the Patriotic Front Government in the last nine years.

Hon Kafwaya started the day by being briefed by Zambia Meteorological Department Assistant Director Research and Forecasting Mr. Emmanuel Sikana who informed the minister that the government from 2011 to date has built 85 automatic weather stations from the initial two.

It was at this briefing that Hon Kafwaya called for collaboration between his ministry and Zambia Meteoroligical Department in the formulation of the Zambia Meteoroligical Bill.

He spoke about the need to have a good Bill that is responsive to the weather needs of the department.

Hon Kafwaya then toured the weather station at the Zambia Meteorological Department which has both manual and automatic facilities.

He later moved to the University of Zambia (UNZA) to tour the weather station before proceeding to the Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

The Minister was accompanied by Ministry of Transport and Communications Permanent Secretary Eng. Misheck Lungu
