Driver Who Hit Into Hon Levy Mkandawire’s Vehicle Hands Herself To Police

ROAD Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) says the RTSA motor vehicle register indicates that the vehicle in question in the fatal accident that happened on Thursday, 18th November, 2021, BMW X5 registration number ALM 5955 is registered under Eliza Kapaba of Lusaka, with expired road tax and motor Insurance.

In a statement made available to #Mwebantu, Agency Head of Public Relations Fredrick Mubanga said the driver of the BMW X5, Jane Mwale has since handed herself to police.

Mr Mubanga said Ms Mwale handed her self to the police yesterday morning and that investigations revealed that she holds a valid Driving Licence.

He added that preliminary accident investigations established that the accident occurred when the driver of the BMW X5, Janet Mwale lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speeding, hit into the Toyota IST which was parked off the road at the gate of Mr. Mkandawire’s residence and consequently crushed him against the wall fence.

Meanwhile RTSA is saddened by the death of Kabwata Member of Parliament Mr. Levy Mkandawire who died after being hit by a motor vehicle mid-day, Thursday 18th November 2021.

Agency Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Gladwell Banda, has since conveyed a message of condolences to the bereaved family, the United Party for National Development (UPND) and the people of Kabwata Constituency, describing the accident as tragic and unfortunate.

On 18th November 2021, the RTSA recorded a fatal road traffic crash which happened at the gate of plot number 34, off Chalata road, Woodlands extension, in Lusaka around 12:40 hours involving two motor vehicles, a BMW X5 registration number ALM 5955 and a Toyota IST registration number ALX2038.
