ECZ Denies Owning Consignment Found On The Plane Carrying Ballot Papers

THE Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has assured the public that the consignment found on a plane carrying the final batch of ballot papers does not belong to the Commission.

Suspicion arose during the receipt of the final batch of ballot papers at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport when some private cargo was offloaded from the aircraft carrying the last batch of ballot papers.Representatives from political parties such demanded that the private luggage be opened so as to check what was inside.

However, after a check it was discovered that the private cargo contained phone accessories, batteries among other gadgets. And ECZ corporate affairs manager Patricia Luhanga said the consignment is not in any way linked to electoral activities.”The dispatch commenced on Wednesday 28th July 2021 and ended on 30th July 2021.

It was however noted that on the last dispatched consignment, in addition to the ballots, the charted plane by the Printer also contained consignments other than the ballots.

This raised concerns from some stakeholders and the Commission indicated that it would engage the Airline through the Printer for clarification,” she said
