Eight People Die In Two Separate Road Accidents, RTSA Has Confirmed

FOUR Eden University nursing students have died in a road traffic accident that happened in Serenje District of Central Province this morning. The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) head of public Relations Fredrick Mubanga has confirmed the death of the four students in a statement.

Mubanga explained that the accident happened after the driver of the bus registration number BAJ 2919 belonging to Chibeka Bus Services, carrying students from Lusaka for practical, to Mpulungu hit the rear side of the Zambia – Malawi Bus and in the process lost control and flipped, killing four students on the spot.

And in another development, Mubanga said four more people have died in a fatal road crash involving a Toyota Hiace Bus registration number AEB 2691 and a Daf truck registration number AJE 2360 along the Chirundu – Lusaka.

Mubanga said the four died on the spot due to dangerous driving after the driver of the truck improperly overtook and collided head-on with the on-coming Hiace Bus.

He said RTSA have since dispatched the accident investigations teams to establish the detailed causations of the two road traffic crashes to ensure that such incidences are mitigated in future.

“The Road Transport and Safety Agency (RTSA) is saddened by the death of eight people who died in two separate road traffic accidents today, morning. The Agency recorded a fatal road crash involving a Toyota Hiace Bus registration number AEB 2691 and a Daf truck registration number AJE 2360 along the Chirundu – Lusaka Road in which four passengers from the bus died on the spot,” said Mubanga.”

The accident happened today at around 10:30 hours after the driver of the bus registration number BAJ 2919 belonging to Chibeka Bus Services, carrying students from Lusaka to Mpulungu hit the rear side of the Zambia – Malawi Bus and in the process lost control and flipped, killing four students on the spot.”
