Govt Defends Kansenhi Mines Over Workers Suspension

Government says Kansanshi Mining FQMO was within its legal right to institute disciplinary measures on workers who were involved in the protest last week.
Speaking at a press briefing in Solwezi, Labour commissioner Givens Mutangwa says his ministry is engaging with management from the Mine and Unions to institute other disciplinary action as opposed to firing them.
Meanwhile, National Union of Miners and Allied Workers President James Chansa says the union remains committed to improving the status of members in the mining sector
Last week Friday, Over two hundred unionised Workers at Kansanshi Mining Plc were suspended after they staged a sit in protest over the Introduction of a Private pension scheme by the mine.
