Hospital CCTV ‘betray’ medicine thief

POLICE in Kalumbila district of North-Western Province have arrested a 38 year old man of Manyama area for allegedly stealing assorted medicines worth over K2, 000 from Lumwana First Level Hospital.North-Western Province acting police commanding officer Fred Mulenga confirmed the incident, in a statement today, that occurred between February 28, 2022 and April 8, 2022 at Lumwana First Level Hospital.
Dr Mulenga stated that the matter was reported on April 8, 2022 by Chibwe Satimu, a pharmacist working at the same hospital.”Reported on 08 April 2022 at around 10:49 hours by female Chibwe Satimu aged 32 years old of Lumwana township in Kalumbila district, a pharmacist on behalf of Lumwana district hospital that male Anoshi Sakutoma aged 38 years of Manyama area, a permanent general worker at Lumwana First Level Hospital, stole some government medicine,” Dr Mulenga said.Dr Mulenga said the stolen medicines included four boxes of injectable contraceptive, one box of malaria antigen, some sachets of Coartem and one bottle of chlorine from the pharmacy, all valued at K2, 244.
He said brief facts of the matter are that some medicine at Lumwana First Level Hospital pharmacy have been missing since February 28, 2022 and that the hospital management decided to install a closed circuit Television (CCTV) in the pharmacy.”Later on the video footage was played and it was discovered that Anoshi Sakutoma, the general worker, had been stealing medicine from the same pharmacy since he has access to the pharmacy when he is cleaning,” he said.Dr Mulenga said recoveries and arrest have been made, while a docket of the case has been opened.
