Taxi Drivers in Mazabuka District Southern Province are resisting the local authority’s move to stop them from operating in undesignated sites but move to the main station.
The Taxi Drivers who operate near ZANACO in the Central Business District have vowed not to leave the illegal station.
They say they cannot move to the main station within town because the place has no enough space to accommodate all the Taxis in Mazabuka.
Meanwhile, a group of Taxi Drivers this morning stormed the Mazabuka Municipal Council Offices demanding for an explanation to why they are being ordered to operate from the main bus station.
The Drivers later held a meeting with Mazabuka Municipal Council Assistant Public Relations Manager, Caroline Simuumba whom they accused and the entire local authority management of working against the new government.
But Ms. Simuumba says the council is just doing its work by removing all illegal operations in town especially that most of the places where transport operators work from do not have among other things water and toilets.
