National Census To Begin On November 1st 2021

Minister of National Development Planning Hon Alexander Chiteme has disclosed that the Census of Population and Housing (CPH) census will be held from 1st November to 28 November 2021.
Hon Chiteme said Government has so far made tremendous strides towards the undertaking and is currently finalizing the preparations.“As you maybe aware, Cabinet on 8th April 2021, approved the holding of the Census of Population and Housing (CPH) in November 2021.
Hon Chiteme said the critical main prerequisite activities for the main census which are the mapping and listing exercise, and the pilot census have since been successfully completed.
“Preparations for the National Census of Population and Housing started some time back in 2016 and I wish to acknowledge your UNFPA’S leadership role in providing human, technical and financial resources towards this undertaking,” he said.
He was speaking when he received 2,110 bicycles which have been donated by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) towards the undertaking of the census. Hon Chiteme said the bicycles will be used for data collection especially in the rural areas where households are far flunged and not accessible using other means of transportation such as motor vehicles or motorbikes.
He further added that this will enable the census enumeration exercise to be conducted with ease and within the specified time.The minister said the importance of the census of population and housing is well understood and cannot be over- emphasised.
Hon Chiteme also said the successful undertaking of the National Census is a mammoth task which requires collaborative efforts by all stakeholders.
And UNPF Country Representative Gift Malunga has praised government’s commitment to undertake the PHC amidst the Covid19 pandemic and its related restrictions.
Ms Malunga said the fact that government has so far managed to successful undertake the Census Mapping as well as the Pilot Census is proof of government’s commitment not only for the census but the availability of statistics in general.
