Police Refutes Reports That They Joined Forces With Pf To Attack Nalumango

THE Zambia Police Service has refuted reports that it joined forces with PF cadres to attack opposition UPND presidential running mate Mutale Nalumnago in Mununga District of Luapula Province yesterday.
In a statement this morning, Police spokesperson Esther Mwaata Katongo said the only incident was the arrest of 10 UPND cadres who had attacked two officers tasked to monitor a procession led by Nalumango as she went to pay a courtesy call to Senior Chief Mununga at his Palace.Katongo explained that a mob of “unruly cadres descended on the two police officers and assaulted them”.
According to Katongo, alarmed by the incident the traditional leader’s chief retainer contacted police over the attack of their officers upon which reinforcement was sent to the area leading to the arrest of 10 cadres who have since been detained
“We wish to refute reports on social media that police working together with cadres of the Patriotic Front attacked peaceful UPND cadres including Mrs Mutale Nalumango. No such incident occurred except for the violent conduct of suspected UPND cadres which led to the arrest of 10.
Members of the public should treat the information circulating with the contempt it deserves and as mare political propaganda,” stated Katongo.
