Six SDA Youths Drown at Lake Kariba In Siavonga

SIX Seventh-Day Adventists youths have died at Lake Kariba during a camp meeting program in Siavonga.

The six youths drowned after they jumped off a fishing rig.

Lusaka Conference of the Seventh-day Adventists Youth communication chairperson Innocent Siachitoba has confirmed the death of the five youths in a statement.

“I wish to inform the members of Lusaka Conference of the Seventh-day Adventists that we have lost five members who drowned in Lake Kariba, Siavonga District. The accident happened on 1st January,2022 around 16: 00 hours.

The youths found a rig parked by the shores of the lake, then they jumped on it .As the operator of the same rig started off into the lake, the youths started jumping off for safety, it was at that point when the accident happened,” he said.

Mr Siachitoba has named the deceased as Goodson Hamaila of John Laing Main Church, Niza Muchiliba of Kanyama Mission District,

Zebron Shitambo of John Laing Central, Ronald Libuku of John Laing North and Rodwell Chileshe also of John Laing.

He however said the body of Allan Mwaanga from Kanyama is still missing.

Mr Siachitoba said the search will continues today.

Five Mission Districts are currently camping at Siavonga Secondary School for a Youth Alive program and these are Chawama,John Laing, Kanyama, Ridgeway and Shorthorn.
