Home affairs and internal security Minister Jack Mwiimbu has accused some police officers of being behind the armed robbery activities being experienced in Lusaka and Copperbelt provinces.
Millennium Radio reports that Mr. Mwiimbu says some undisciplined police officers who have been perpetuating criminal activities should not be allowed to remain in the police service.
The Minister said this when officiated at the Zambia Police day in Lusaka this morning.
He says there is urgent need for the police command to rebuild its image and restore confidence in the people if crime is to be curbed.
Mr Mwiimbu has also has reminded the Zambia police to desist from detaining members of the public for more than 48 hours.
And speaking at the same event police deputy inspector General Doris Nayame says the command is aware of the diminishing public confidence and has instituted a committee aimed at improving the police image.
Ms. Nayame says the command is also enhancing community policing by empowering active participation of stakeholders in a bid to restore trust and confidence among community members.
