Tasila Lungu Duly Elected Chawama Mp

THE Lusaka High Court has declared that Tasila Lungu validly won the Chawama parliamentary seat on August 12, 2021.
Losing UPND candidate Potipher Tembo challenged the election victory of Tasila on grounds that she engaged in electoral malpractices.
But Tasila denied engaging in any election illegalities.
In his judgment this afternoon, judge Chenda said even if they were reported incidences of violence in some areas of Chawama constituency, the evidence before court did not meet the minimum standards required in election petitions.
He said the extent of those illegal activities complained of in the petition were not significant to the point of preventing the electorates from voting of a candidate of their choice.
The judge dismissed the petition, saying it has failed in its entirety and declared that Tasila was duly elected as MP for Chawama constituency.
He said the petitioner and respondent shall bear their own costs in the spirit of reconcilation and healing in Chawama constituency.
The judge however, ordered the petitioner to pay ECZ costs to be taxed in default.
