The Man Was Driving The BMW That Hit Late Kabwata Mp Mr Mkandawire

THE tragedy of last week’s car accident involving the Kabwata Member of Parliament Levy Mkandawire who was bashed outside his home has taken a new twist which adds more mystery and pain to what really happened during the accident.

Police have disclosed that actually the accident was caused by Jetta Kalengo aged 56, and not Jane Mwale, the woman who was accused of causing the accident.

In a statement statement issued by police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, Ms Mwale the wife to Alick Jetta Kalengo handed herself to the Police and after interrogations it was discovered that the husband is the one who was driving the BMW X5 registration number ALM 5955.

Mr Hamoonga said Mr Kalengo also confessed that he was the one who was driving the motor vehicle at the time of the accident.

“Police in Lusaka has made progress in the investigations involving the road traffic accident that caused the death of Honourable Levy Mkandawire who was Member of Parliament  for Kabwata Constituency at the gate of his residence along Chalata road, Woodlands extension on 18th November, 2021.police has charged and arrested male Alick Jetta Kalengo aged 56 of plot number 32 Chalata road, Woodlands Extension for four offences,” he said.

Mr Hamoonga said Mr Kalengo has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, using a motor vehicle without road licence,  and using a motor vehicle without insurance.

He said police have since charged Mr Kalengo for the offence of giving false information to a public officer.

Mr Hamoonga said police have also recorded a statement from a witness which collaborated with Ms Mwale’s Statement.

He said  Mr Kalengo is detained in police custody awaiting court proceedings while Ms Mwale has since been released.
