Truck Driver’s Protest Causes Panic Buying Of Fuel Among Motorists

There is panic buying of fuel in a few service stations that have stocks in Ndola.This follows the ongoing truck drivers strike in most parts of the country.
Ongoing truck drivers strike has reportedly caused petrol shortage at gas stations in some parts of the copperbelt.
Ndola, Kitwe and Luanshya District are some of the town’s that have a shortage of petrol and Diesel.This forced motorists to panic as most stations do not have fuel.
The Petroleum Transporters Association of Zambia PTAZ says most of their member fuel tankers are loaded with fuel but are threatened by truck drivers who are protesting.
PTAZ secretary general Benson Tembo said the drivers that are protesting are targeting petroleum tanker drivers.
He said most of the tanker drivers have opted to move with police escort which has become a cost on transportation.
And Transport and Communication minister Mutotwe Kafwaya said the causeof the protests is between the employee and the employers.
Kafwaya is in Ndola meeting transporters to iron out the challenges truck drivers are facing.
