Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo -DRC- have agreed to allow movement of trucks via the Kasumbalesa Border following protests by truckers who stopped crossing into DRC on allegations of being attacked.

After a nearly three hour meeting, Defence Minister AMBROSE LUFUMA said the two governments have agreed to allow trucks to start moving this morning.

Mr. LUFUMA has also disclosed that the Congolese government has agreed to provide three security patrol vehicles on the stretch in the DRC to ensure their safety as they deliver goods in that Country.

He says all documents for truckers will be processed on 24 hour basis to ensure they do not spend long hours at the border while truckers will move from 06:00 to 20:00 until further notice.

Mr. LUFUMA said all the agreements will immediately be put into a Memorandum of Understanding to be signed by both countries to ensure safety for all truckers.

Meanwhile, Haut-Katanga Deputy Governor JEAN-CLAUDE KAMFWA KIMIMBA has thanked government for their commitment to resolving the issues.

And SADC Drivers Association President EUGENE NDLOVU has appealed to Truck Drivers to immediately start work as all their conditions have been met.
